36 fourth-graders honored at certificates ceremony.

At a midday ceremony on November 6 at Community Preparatory School, $1,000 college scholarships were presented to 36 beaming students from three participating Providence schools. Each scholarship is deposited into an individual Rhode Island CollegeBoundfund® account in the student’s name.

The Read to Succeed Scholars completing this year’s summer program included students from Community Preparatory School, Highlander Charter School and Bishop McVinney Catholic Elementary School. To date, students from these schools have received a combined total of $152,000 in scholarships since the program was founded in 2008. Our program has been endorsed by Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and Deborah Gist, Rhode Island Commissioner of Education.

Program stakeholders participating in the certificates ceremony included Ralph and Barbara Papitto, Read to Succeed founders; Michael Solomon, Providence City Council president; Dan Corley, principal, Community Preparatory School; Rose Mary Grant, head of school, Highlander Charter School; and Louis Herbert, principal, Bishop McVinney Catholic Elementary School.
